Coronavirus - contingency planning - letter from Headteacher 12.03.20

Dear Parents/Carers

In the event that ESW is instructed by the Government, or an agency of the Government, to close one or more of the secondary schools in the Trust, we want to be able to continue with the education of our students.

At Teign, in the event of school closure, we will ensure that all students are set work to do at home via their E-praise accounts. They will have work set every day for the 5 lessons they would normally have on their timetables. In addition, we will be operating a ‘remote’ lesson system. This letter, and the supporting document “Remote Lessons – Student Guide” detail how this will be facilitated.

1. Overview Teaching staff will be able to deliver classes to students at home using Skype for Business on their staff laptops. Students will be able to use a number of devices, e.g. PC, Apple Mac, iOS, Android to connect to a Skype call initiated by their Teacher.

2. Planned “go-live” of remote lessons This solution will “go-live” to certain year groups, or to the whole school, depending on the length of time the closure is expected to be. Remote lessons will be delivered according to the existing school timetable.

One-week closure For a one-week closure, ESW IT Services will support the proposed solution for Year 11 and Year 13 classes. . Day 1 – No lessons teaching staff familiarization with Skype and teaching staff to create Skype meetings. . Day 2 – Remote lessons for Year 11 and Year 13 commence and continue thereafter

Two-week closure For a two-week closure, ESW IT Services will support the proposed solution for Year 10, Year 11, Year 12, and Year 13 classes. . Day 1 – No lessons teaching staff familiarization with Skype and teaching staff to create Skype meetings . Day 2 – Remote lessons for Year 11 and Year 13 commence and continue thereafter . Day 3 – Remote lessons for Year 10 and Year 12 commence and continue thereafter

Longer than two-week closure For closures that are expected to last longer than two weeks, ESW IT Services will support the proposed solution all year groups. . Day 1 – No lessons teaching staff familiarization with Skype and teaching staff to create Skype meetings . Day 2 – Remote lessons for Year 11 and Year 13 commence and continue thereafter . Day 3 – Remote lessons for Year 10 and Year 12 commence and continue thereafter . Day 4 – Remote lessons for Year 9 and Year 8 commence and continue thereafter . Day 5 – Remote lessons for Year 7 commence and continue thereafter

3. Ongoing IT Support ESW IT Services will provide support over the phone to help with users who have any issues. Students, parents and carers will be able to contact IT Support by ringing the main school number of a secondary school that has been closed and by pressing option 9.

4. Other key systems Shared Work Area Shared Work Area can be used by staff and students to access files and resources saved on school systems from home. This is accessible through the school website. E-Praise ePraise can be accessed from any device with an internet connection. Sparx Sparx can be used with any device with an internet connection.

In the event that we do close we will maintain regular communication to parents/carers via email, the website and social media. Teachers will be contactable via their school emails.

Whilst the school is open we will continue to take advice and guidance from the DfE and Public Health. You child’s wellbeing is our main priority.

As always, please contact us if you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s education.

Yours sincerely

Suzannah Wharf Headteacher
